Government moves to ban export of uncertified grain

The government is preparing to enforce stringent national guidelines requiring that all grain exports be certified for quality by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), in a move aimed at curbing regional Rejections of Ugandan produce over Quality concerns.
Under new regulations drafted by the Ministry of Agriculture’s Crop Inspection Department, no maize or other grain will be allowed to leave Uganda without the UNBS Quality (Q) Mark, a Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) permit. The measures are scheduled to take effect in the first Quarter of the 2025/2026 financial year (July-September).
